[Package Issue]: JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh requires elevation to upgrade #195802

Please confirm these before moving forward

  • I have searched for my issue and not found a work-in-progress/duplicate/resolved issue.
  • I have not been informed if the issue is resolved in a preview version of the winget client.

Category of the issue

Installation issue.

Brief description of your issue

When updating JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh (installed in user scope) using winget upgrade JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh, the installer requires elevation. Uninstall and reinstall will not require elevation.

Steps to reproduce

  • Enable UAC
  • Uninstall the package: winget uninstall JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh (if previously installed)
  • Install an older version in User scope: winget install JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh --version "24.11.2" --scope "user"
  • Observe that no elevation is required
  • Upgrade the package: winget upgrade JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh
  • Observe elevation prompt
  • Upgrade using winget upgrade JanDeDobbeleer.OhMyPosh --uninstall-previous
  • Observe elevation prompt

Actual behavior

There is elevation prompt when upgrading the package

Expected behavior

If the package is installed in user scope, there should not be elevation prompt when upgrading
